Upcoming Event: Pivot Towards Your Purpose

Santa Cruz CORE is hosting Pivot Towards Your Purpose, a women’s empowerment event held on September 28th at the Resource Center of Non-Violence in Santa Cruz, CA.

As a woman, you have probably experienced how hard it is to branch out on your own in a male-dominated field of study. Not only is it made more difficult by societal biases and norms, but by the pressure and insecurity you heap upon yourself. Additionally, we are often taught that our sensitivity and vulnerability make us weak. In fact, it is the opposite.

There are hundreds of women just like you. They are struggling to make their dream a reality, whatever it may be. Each has their own methods of making this happen, and what better way to share than through conversation and collaboration? At Pivot, we hope to inspire women to pursue their true purpose. Additionally, if purpose has already been found, we want to share how to thrive in that purpose. This event is held by women, for women—even our sponsors are women!

Speakers include Jaimi Jansen, Taylor Boone, Yvonne Cagle, and Rania Hoteit. These inspiring women represent diversity in age, race, nationality, and orientation. Each is a leader in their field. Each has also experienced their own individual challenges of starting their business, pursuing their purpose, and ultimately finding their own version of success.

Jaimi’s Purpose:

Previously, Jaimi Jansen did not think of herself as a feminist. She was a young entrepreneur in the male-dominated field of medicine, and she faced subtle undermining around every turn. She often found that at business events, people would go to shake her husband’s hand, automatically assuming that he was “the boss”. This then caused her to take on a masculine energy to over-compensate, an abrasive energy that wasn’t her own. Over time she has found that “It is all about living in ‘me’ and who I am, and that can change over time.” Jaimi now embraces the gentle and nurturing strength she finds in being a woman. Now, she wants to help others embrace that within themselves.

So how do we reconcile our need to find our version of success, while still honoring who we are? We believe that the answer lies in a sincere communication with our inner selves, and with each other as a community.

We are proud to be co-hosting this event. Santa Cruz CORE’s very inception was guided by a similar vision from Jaimi—a vision of helping others and creating community. CORE has been helping people achieve health for nearly 10 years. However, during that time something else was happening behind the scenes—a drive to help other people find their purpose. We have evolved over the years through all our setbacks and triumphs. Through these challenges, we have therefore learned the value of authenticity and celebrating people as individuals.
