17th Annual Jay Race

On a misty, overcast day in June, we celebrated the Jay Race’s 17th year.

Although the weather made for rough paddleboard conditions, that is “just the way Jay would want it”, his late wife reported. Not only did this event act in memory of famous Santa Cruz Waterman, Jay Moriarity, it also included a special commemoration. The representative of Pleasure Point district announced June 16th the official “Jay Day” in Santa Cruz, a day that would have marked Jay’s 40th birthday.
Activities included an ocean paddleboard race, a competitive 2-mile sprint, and a free kid’s “Mini Jay Race”. Not only that, they built a king of the hill sand mountain for the kids, who could use it to boogie board down. In this year’s annual event, we saw a whopping 200 participants; with all of these activities, our services certainly came in handy! Santa Cruz CORE offered complimentary massage therapy, corrective exercise, fitness assessments, and demonstrations of self-myofascial release. Many participants visited our booth to release tension and reach their full potential for the various activities.
This was a wonderful event we are proud to be a part of every year. We want to thank the Jay Moriarity Foundation for allowing us to participate in the race. Stop by next year and visit us at our booth, participate in the many fun activities, and join us in honoring one man’s amazing legacy!
