Body Mass Index (BMI)

Because children and teenagers are continually developing, BMI is exclusively for adults. This makes having defined values for BMI cut-offs for young individuals challenging. An increase in BMI is mainly caused by an increase in body fat in people who have stopped growing.

What is the BMI range for children that is considered healthy?

For children and teenagers, BMI estimates are not a good way to determine their weight. Children’s and adolescent BMI calculations differ from adult BMI estimates in that they take into consideration the child’s or teenager’s age and gender.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) created the current BMI charts for youngsters. They’re good for determining whether or not a youngster is overweight or obese if he or she is beyond the age of two.

Being overweight or underweight might have a negative impact on your health.

There is no definitive relationship between being overweight or obese and the likelihood of being unwell. The investigation is still underway.
