Spring Bike to Work Day

Ecology Action has done it again! In the early morning hours of May 9th, various businesses set up for a spectacular community event. Ecology Action hosted its  Spring Bike to Work Day. This day celebrates and promotes the use of alternative modes of transportation. Santa Cruz CORE  participated once again. We were stationed downtown at one of 12 locations for the event. Each site provided breakfast for bikers and was located in a main work route area.

Ecology Action Takes Action with Bike to Work

Ecology Action  believes that it is possible “to have both a thriving economy and a thriving environment”

The entire month of May is Bike Month & the non-profit is going above and beyond to spread the word! Their goal is to…”team up with all of Santa Cruz County to ditch your car and pedal on two wheels during the entire month of May. We are going big with a $7,500 individual cash prize drawing and a 2019 Gazelle ebike from Current eBikes to get you riding!”

What a great way to motivate people to make a change to be more eco-friendly. Even adopting the practice of biking to work one day a month makes a difference so go out there and show your planet some love!

CORE Offers Massage + A Zen Play Space for Bike to Work

CORE was set up right outside of Verve Coffee Roasters who offered people delicious FREE coffee all morning long. Additionally, the booth right across was none other than the Santa Cruz Police Department. They were kind enough to provide people with information on how to register your bike in Santa Cruz County! They also performed bike checks. Visitors were treated to a bevy of breakfast pastries, fruit, granola bars, and more!

One of the best parts of this event was that many people stopped by our booth and expressed, “tell me more about CORE” or “thank you for being here and offering the chair massage to start my day off right.” This type of engagement is what CORE is all about!

Also, the event was extra special because we were able to set up a yoga/ stretching place for people to enjoy before or after their chair massage. Many visitors used the foam roller or yoga block and took a moment to really enjoy some self-care.
