IKF Muay Thai Tournament

This past weekend the International Kickboxing Federation (IKF) hosted a Muay Thai tournament. It was located at Live Oak Elementary in Santa Cruz. The IKF Muay Thai organization strives “to make competitive Kickboxing and Muay Thai fighting a safe and fair sport” all over the world.

What does the IKF do?

The IKF was formed in 1992 by co-founders Dan Stell and Steve Fossum. The founders came together through a common belief. “Do not follow where others have been, but go instead, where there is no path and leave their own trail…”

In other words, they changed the way fighters and trainers participated in events by creating a federation that allowed people to grow and demonstrate their skills. If you missed the tournament, you can find more of their events by checking out the IKF calendar!

Where did Muay Thai start?

Commonly known as Thai boxing in Thailand, Muay Thai uses the entire body as a combative weapon. The momentum behind Muay Thai involves the three components that Santa Cruz CORE values as well- the connection between the mind, body, and soul. Two services that CORE offers which really help to connect these elements are massage therapy and acupuncture.

Our CORE Role

Ultimately, Santa Cruz CORE  was happy to be a part of the tournament again this year as even more people were in attendance. Our booth was located in the main event room with the crowd cheering from the bleachers and watching the competition ensue.

There was passion in the competitor’s dedication as well as in the viewers’ commitment and support. Anyone who attended the event could tell how much training, dedication, and sacrifice is behind it all. At some points, there was more than one fight happening at once. For some participants,  it was actually their first fight and nerves and anticipation were high! Overall, there was never a dull moment.

he world, Kickboxing and Muay Thai.
