3 Reasons to make Omegas part of your daily diet

3 Reasons to make Omegas a Part of your daily diet!

Omega-3 essential fatty acids, like those found in Fish Oils are essential for human health. The body is unable make omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids therefore we must find another source such as supplements, or food. Since these fatty acids are “essential” it is important to get

a potent, high quality, fish oil. We choose Nordic Naturals as our source of omegas because they are molecularly distilled ensuring no trace amounts of heavy metals are in the fish oil, they are not rancid (so no fishy after taste), and they are local!

Maryland Medical Center states, “Fish, plant, and nut oils are the primary dietary source of omega-3 fatty acids. Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are found in cold water fish such as salmon, mackerel, halibut, sardines, tuna, and herring. ALA is found in flaxseeds, flaxseed oil, grapeseed oil, soybeans, soybean oil, pumpkin seeds, pumpkin seed oil, purslane, perilla seed oil, walnuts, and walnut oil.”

Reducing Inflammation:

In various studies, omega-3’s have been shown to reduce inflammation in the joints which allows for overall better body function. It’s shown great promise for those who suffer with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), an autoimmune disease that attacks the joints. By taking a good fish oil those suffering with this condition have reported less symptoms than usual. In addition it helps lubricate the joints of the general population, helping to keep joints healthy throughout the aging process.

Increase Brain Function

Fish oils are high in DHA which is absorbed better by the brain. It’s essential to infant brain development as well as for healthy brain function in adults. Studies show that a daily fish oil can aid in concentration and relieve “fogginess.”  Fish oils have been reported to help those having suffered from traumatic brain injuries as well.

Decrease Depression

As with brain function, DHA has been well connected with alleviating symptoms of certain mental ailments such as depression. According to studies subjects with depression also had very low levels of DHA.

Omega-3 fatty acids already have a reputation for their ability to protect against heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, but studies are now showing that eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) may be highly effective in preventing and managing depression and cognitive decline, according to a growing body of evidence.

The American Psychiatric Association’s treatment recommendations for the use of omega-3 fatty acids bears testament to this strategy. Joseph R. Hibbeln, MD, from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) tells Life Extension magazine, “The strongest evidence was found for managing major depressive symptoms, with the effect of omega-3s being at least as great, if not greater than, antidepressant medications.” Regarding these powerful fatty acids, Dr. Hibbeln further notes, “… deficient intakes may increase risk for mental distress.”1

Why Nordic Naturals?

We love locally sourced products and Nordic Naturals is located in Watsonville! We also like that this company is third-party tested, ensuring that what is in the bottle is actually in the bottle.  The FDA doesn’t approve any supplements, so choosing a good source is important, otherwise there is no guarantee that what the label says is actually what you will be ingesting.

Nordic Naturals adheres to and exceeds the stringent European Pharmacopoeia Standard (EPS) as well as the voluntary standards set by the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) and the Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega–3 (GOED) for all of their oils. These standards guarantee quality products by setting maximum allowances on peroxides, heavy metals, dioxins, and PCBs.
