Daily Checkin 4/8: Stay Connected with Meditation

Mindfulness Meditation

Mindfulness meditation is an excellent self-actualizing skill that can be practiced just about anywhere, anytime, from five minutes to an hour. Studies have shown that just a few minutes of meditation is enough to bring about positive benefits of such as improved blood flow, sleep, and concentration, as well as reduced stress and anxiety. In such uncertain times, meditation can offer us some much needed peace of mind. Interested in giving it a try? We lead virtual guided meditation sessions every day at noon. Join us!

Exploring the World of Cooking Oils

Recent health trends have brought a host of obscure cooking oils into the mainstream. If you are considering cooking with alternative oils for health reasons, you absolutely should! However, be aware that not all oils perform the same. Oils with a high smoke point are perfect for frying and sautéing because they don’t burn easily. Some examples include olive oil (NOT extra virgin), avocado oil, clarified butter, or canola oil. Oils with a low smoke DO burn at lower temperatures and should be reserved for dipping, flavoring, and salads. Try sesame oil, sunflower oil, or extra virgin olive oil.

Take a Walk

Feeling cooped up? A daily walk around the neighborhood might make for a good change of pace. It’s a great way to incorporate physical activity into your everyday routine. It also might help us to maintain a safe and appropriate sense of connection with our neighborhood community during periods of stress, anxiety, and isolation. We are all in this together!
