Love Your Skin + Treat Yourself
Botox treatments are the most common and one of the most effective forms of cosmetic treatments on the market. What people don’t tell you, however, is that who is behind the needle is often far more important than the Botox itself. Dr. John Grady works with our medical group and is one of the most experienced, steady-handed, and professional D.O’s in the entire Bay Area. He has helped hundreds of patients look the best they have in years, and is sure to give you great results as well.
Botox-type injectables can help a patient of
any age improve his or her appearance. Not only will it make for a more youthful look, but it will also rid you of stress marks helping you look refreshed. The most commonly treated areas are those where muscle activity affects facial features, such as:
- Wrinkles around the eyes, such as crow’s feet
- Glabellar lines (a.k.a. “elevens” or frown lines)
- Forehead creases
- Corners of the mouth
- A “cobblestoned” appearance to the chin
Pre-treatment consultation
During your consultation, Dr. John Grady will evaluate your area of concern and go over your medical history. He will ask you about any allergies and any medications you may have, to ensure that Botox is 100% safe for you.
Your Botox-type injectable treatment
Your provider will inject the Botox solution into the muscle at strategic points. Most patients describe a pinching feeling during the injection, though not much pain.
You will be able to go back to your normal activities right after treatment, but Dr. Grady may ask you to take the day off from exercise or other strenuous activity and to keep your head upright for the rest of the day.
Following treatment, you may not see results immediately. This is expected, so do not worry that treatment hasn’t worked. Depending on the patient and the area treated, final results are typically reached 3 to 7 days after initial treatments.
While botulinum toxin type A is most commonly used to treat facial wrinkles, Dr. Grady can also address other aesthetic concerns that are associated with nerve and muscle activity:
- Reduce excessive sweating. Botox injections can be used to interrupt the nerve impulses that activate the sweat glands, helping alleviate embarrassment from excessive sweating on the armpits, hands or feet.
- Soften vertical neck bands. If you are bothered by prominent vertical bands on your neck, botulinum toxins can be used to relax the responsible muscles and give your neck a smoother, softer appearance.

Questions About Facial Rejuvenation:
1. What makes the “Vampire” Facelift a natural procedure?
Answer ExpandAs one ages, the skin loses elasticity and the ability to produce collagen. The injections received during PRP and a vampire facelift come from your own body and help to stimulate that collagen. The cytokines and growth factors are what work to improve skin health, and other than a topical pain cream, drugs and non-natural chemicals are not used. These injections are not foreign substances and are made using your body’s own blood components, and are considered safe.
2. Who should consider facial rejuvenation services?
Answer ExpandThose that are experiencing signs of aging in their skin such as fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, or pigmentation disorders (such as hypopigmentation or hyperpigmentation), would benefit from facial rejuvenation. As cells age, the speed of their production decreases, including the production of collagen. This will cause signs of natural aging, which when combined with sun damage and improper care, can contribute to poor skin health. By using PRP injections to re-stimulate the body’s collagen and healing processes again, the skin becomes more healthy and elastic.
3. How is a “Vampire” Facelift administered?
Answer ExpandFirst, the physician will extract your blood; the blood is processed in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets and growth factors, in the end producing PRP (platelet-rich plasma). The doctor will then use a “microneedle” to create channels within the skin to stimulate the wound into a healing response. Using the microneedle, the patient’s own PRP is stamped into the skin and distributed throughout these channels–this is a fairly quick and painless process. By “tricking” the skin into thinking it has been wounded, new cells and collagen are produced to create healthier, smoother skin!
4. How quickly do you recover from a “Vampire” Facelift/PRP injection?
Answer ExpandMost recovery times last only 1-2 days after receiving treatment. You may experience redness of the skin on your face and/or neck, similar to a sunburn, following treatment. However, this fades away and you will see results over the course of a few weeks.
5. When can I start seeing results?
Answer ExpandAfter 1-2 days of downtime, during which time you may experience redness, bruising, swelling, and pinpoint bleeding, your skin will start to look normal again and begin processing the treatment. You may see results within a few weeks, yet changes will continue to develop for several months after the procedure.
6. How much will a “Vampire” Facelift cost me?
Answer ExpandFacial rejuvenation services are not covered by insurance because, as an area of prolotherapy, it is still considered investigational and needs further scientific evidence to support its effectiveness. For pricing, please call our front desk at 831.425.9500.
