Today I had the opportunity to do Hydrostatic Body Fat Testing! It’s is very exciting because I’ve been on a fitness journey to dial in my body.
Hydrostatic Body Fat Testing is THE MOST accurate form of body fat testing out there.
Why is body fat testing so important? Well, being healthy isn’t just about a number on a scale. It is about how one feels, looks and ratio of lean mass to body fat. An individual can be skinny and still have carry an unhealthy amount of fat on their body. Hydrostatic weighing measures the percentage of body’s lean mass to body fat. It is the most accurate way of testing the body’s composition.
There are two ways to store fat, subcutaneous or visceral. Subcutaneous fat is the fat that is stored directly under the skin. Visceral fat is the fat that is harder to see and is stored deeper inside the body around the organs. Subcutaneous fat is the healthiest kind of fat. Remember everyone looks and feels differently at specific values of body fat, so though there are standards of what is healthy, it is ultimately a very individualized thing to determine where your body will be happiest.
The dunk tank is not just about looking at body composition, but also when we determine how much lean muscle we have it is then possible to calculate an individuals resting metabolic rate, how many calories the body will burn at rest. This takes the guess work out of figuring out how much one should eat to lose or gain weight. Changing the body is a scientific process and the less variables we have the easier the process can become.
